M23 rebels seize Goma

SBS World News, February 2025

The United Nations says intense fighting has killed at least 700 people in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, as rebels move deeper into the country.

M23 fighters are continuing to capture several towns in the mineral-rich region, after seizing the major city of Goma, which borders Rwanda.

They’re rapidly advancing south towards Bukavu, where officials are recruiting civilians to protect the city.
