Refugee advocates say they fear for the safety of up to 23 asylum seekers who have been deported to Vietnam.

Refugee Action Coalition spokesman Ian Rintoul says a large proportion of those deported were part of the Catholic minority facing persecution from the church in Vietnam.

The Coalition claims three asylum seekers who’ve already been returned to Vietnam from Australia are experiencing constant harassment by police.

Mr Rintoul says he fears the same fate could await the 23 asylum seekers who were deported early on Wednesday morning.
